Pablo Escobar became infamous in the 1980s when he became a drug lord in Colombia. A notorious criminal since the mid-1960s, he was shot dead in 1993 by a special American-Colombian commando after a long and costly hunt.

In the 1980s, he officially became America's largest drug exporter, and especially the main cocaine supplier to American traffickers. At the same time, his methods are becoming more stringent. He set up an omerta throughout the Colombian political landscape, intended to cover his activities. Able to bribe any assembly or leader, the trafficker is then untouchable. The one who refused to carry out the assassination kills or causes thousands of people to be killed to keep his traffic afloat. The Medellín Cartel became infamous for its responsibility in certain attacks such as the murder of Colombian presidential candidates. In 1990, the United States and Colombia decided to join forces to bring it down. After several failed attempts in three years, Pablo Escobar was shot dead on the roof of a building the day after his 41st birthday in Medellín.
