The American pitbull terrier is a breed of dog prohibited in France. It is therefore prohibited to transfer, import or acquire it. In addition, its sterilization is mandatory. The 2008 law classifies this breed of dog in category 1, requiring owners to comply with strict regulations*. On the other hand, although forbidden in France, the American pitbull terrier remains a dog "like any other". This means that well educated, well socialized and with responsible teachers, he is absolutely not dangerous, mean or aggressive by nature. It is true that this breed of dog has been widely used for dog fighting and that its character is therefore more assertive than some breeds. Its morphology and especially its jaw strength also give it the image of a "dangerous dog", although this is not the case.
