With an exceptional thirst for creativity, Pablo Picasso touches all the pictorial trends of the 20th century, surrealism, expressionism or neoclassicism, to become one of the undisputed masters of modern art. Born in Malaga (Spain) on 25 October 1881, Pablo Picasso was the son of Don José Ruiz y Blanco, painter and drawing teacher, and Maria Picasso y Lopez. Picasso painted his first oil painting at the age of eight. Encouraged by his father, he studied at the Guarda in A Coruña and then at the School of Fine Arts in Barcelona. At the Barcelona Exhibition of Fine Arts and Industry, his painting The First Communion is presented. Although not awarded a prize, it was greeted by a major newspaper. In 1900, Picasso went to Paris for the first time with his friend Casagemas. He discovered the works of Toulouse-Lautrec, Cézanne, Degas and Gauguin. We start buying some paintings from him in France and Spain. His painting Derniers instants (which later would be covered by La Vie) was presented at the Exposition Universelle in Paris. The following year, the artist decided to abandon his father's name (Ruiz Blanco) in favour of his mother's: Picasso.
